Reverend Charmaine was ordained by the New Seminary, a school of interfaith theology in New York City. She is a Reiki Master, certified hypnotherapist, trained aromatherapist, and tantric energy specialist.

Reverend Charmaine is a member of AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists). She is also a member of ASEP (Association of Sexual Energy Professionals).

She assists organizations such as Alternatives to Domestic Violence; the New York City school system; and the New School for Social Research, where she taught stress relief and chakra balancing, and performed aura readings for students.

Reverend Charmaine has been interviewed on radio station WWRL, Channel 9 News, and has also been profiled for her personal growth in the holistic magazine To Your Health.

She was recently featured on Sirius Radio's Playboy Channel, where she was interviewed by host Deanna Brooks regarding her book, The Sensuous Mystic: Uniting Sex and Spirit. She later fielded questions from listeners - one of whom enthusiatically called it "an awesome show"!

She has led workshops in the tri-state area since 1992, and is continually increasing her work as a facilitator of personal empowerment through workshops and one-on-one sessions: the individual sessions include sexual counseling, spiritual counseling, tantric energy work, aura readings and cleansings, chakra balancings, and spiritual tarot readings; her workshops include chakra intensives, Goddess rituals, Second Sunday Services and various others that continue to support empowerment for all.

Her unique methods center on our natural ability to evolve by healing ourselves and others. With her guidance and assistance, one is lead through a series of letting-go processes. These experiences enable one to work through and leave behind a lifetime of fears and paralyzing self-doubt, to attain the position of strength and power that is rightfully their own.

In July, 2000, in a primitive and intense ritual, she was initiated into Goddesshood. From this ceremony, she realized that she'd been called to bring forth the unification of Sex and Spirit.

Reverend Goddess Charmaine has made it her life mission to reconcile sex and spirituality through tantra. "I believe that our body is a holy temple and our sexual energy is our life force," says Charmaine, who conducts workshops and one-on-one tantric healing sessions.

Charmaine is also an initiated "goddess," which she says has become her everyday consciousness. Charmaine has not always manifested the goddess consciousness, however. At one time, she was "overweight, very negative and in an abusive relationship." She says that she hit rock-bottom one day when her ex-husband had beaten her up and she was getting ready to bail him out of jail, yet again.

"I remember looking into the mirror and wondering if I should try to cover the bruises on my neck," she says. "I looked into my eyes and I finally saw my true self - I saw infinity, the endless me." From that day on, her life changed. "I got my ex-husband out of my life and began to empower myself." Her spiritual journey had begun. She began exercising, reading self-help books, eating better and transforming the way she thought. Then she read the book that changed her life. It was The Art of Sexual Ecstasy by Margo Anand. "For the first time, I realized how to bring consciousness into sex," she says.

Her passion was re-awakened. A series of coincidences led to work at a sexual surrogate's office, where she began intensive study in sexual therapy. She also ended up studying directly with Anand in both in New York and in California. "Tantra is about honoring your partner's body and spirit," says Charmaine. "Physical love is only about fulfilling needs."

As a child, Charmaine had developed the ability to see aura and to tell the future. With her initiation into tantra, Charmaine says that her psychic abilities have returned. "When I touch someone's body now I can read their sexual energy," she says. "I know if someone has a sexual block and what the origin of the block is." Charmaine also noticed something else, as well. And other people did too. The goddess had descended on her.

Her mentor, Reverend Georges, initiated Charmaine as a Goddess during an elaborate ceremony at the Source of Life Center in Chelsea. Charmaine says that she wants to share tantric healing with all people, not just those in the New Age community who understand tantra. "I want to be able to heal everyone - from the professional to the blue collar worker," she says.

Many people come to Charmaine for sexual issues - impotence, inability to find a mate and performance issues. But many others come for empowerment and a celebration of their own life energy. "People are all hung up about sexually transmitted diseases, but I am more concerned about spiritually transmitted diseases," says Charmaine. "Sexual energy is powerful and universal. When we learn how to live with it and not repress it, our lives become transformed."

I have gone through my own soul cleansings, purgings and life lessons to come to this place of harmony and balance. I have been gifted with many talents to help others.

From a child I saw and sensed things beyond the natural senses, and my dreams often came true. I never took responsibility for the unusual things happening to me, but once I began frequenting churches and prayer groups it became clear to me that a force greater than myself was at work within me. I found myself quickly damaged at the tender age of thirteen by the spiritual leaders that I followed. It has truly taken me years of confusion and pain to understand that I have a personal and free relationship with the Creator, God -- the Life Force that moves throughout us all. My pain grew so great in this life that I allowed myself to become cut off from that flow of energy.

After college, I came home, got married, and had two children. I gave up my own thoughts and feelings and allowed my husband to dominate me in the same way the church had. I was confused. The more I allowed this man to control me, the more I died. I became a battered wife. My weight shot up to 210 lbs, and I was drinking all of the time. I WAS IN HELL. I decided to give the church another chance in the hopes that I had been wrong, but instead I began to experience the struggle between my true self, which I knew was good and wholesome, and the control by fear and guilt from the pulpit. I left.

Finally, on May 15, 1990, I took a good long look at myself. I saw my battered, swollen face and body; my eyes were dead. My children were in their rooms afraid that I was going to die, and my husband was in jail for beating me. So I repented as I'd been taught, believing that I'd committed a sin by allowing my life to turn out this way. But still I was not happy; I had stopped smiling a long time ago, and I was not in love. So I simply forgave myself and started over --and what happened next was a feeling of intense joy, and a love that I could not explain. Although the constrictive methods of the church had not been able to relieve my suffering, I believe now that the simple act of forgiving myself sent my Christ Light breaking through the darkness of my soul.

Having the courage to go through and succeed in the many subsequent challenges I faced gave me this realization: the desire within my desire was to survive, AND to still love. And I believe that LOVE CAN SURVIVE.

Today I speak to you as a person that’s done it, and as someone who continues to focus on the treasure chest inside that gets me through each day in the best way possible.
